Corrugate Packaging

Sustainability and durability

Corrugated paper, also known as corrugated cardboard, was first invented in 1817 by a London merchant named Henry Wright. He used layers of paper, which had been treated with a pulping process called “pulping,” to create a strong and stiff material that could be used to make boxes and other packaging materials.

The corrugated paper industry really took off in the United States in the late 1800s, when a man named William W. Lyman patented a machine that could mass-produce corrugated cardboard. This machine, called the Fourdrinier Machine, used a continuous process to produce long rolls of corrugated paper, which could then be cut and shaped into boxes and other packaging materials.

In the early 1900s, corrugated paper began to be used more and more for packaging, as it was strong and lightweight, making it ideal for shipping goods. In the 1920s, the corrugated paper industry began to use recycled paper to make corrugated cardboard, which helped to reduce waste and increase the sustainability of the industry.

Today, corrugated cardboard is used in a wide range of applications, including packaging for consumer products, construction materials, and even art projects. It is a versatile and durable material that has played a key role in the development of modern packaging and shipping industries.
